İhtilâflı konuların araştırılıp nereden kaynaklandığı incelenmeden Müslümanlar arasında vahdet ve birlik sağlanamaz. Üç ciltten oluşan bu eserin ilk cildinde delilleriyle birlikte iki büyük İslam mezhebinin ihtilaflı konuları ve bu ihtilafların kaynak ve etkenleri incelenmiş, daha sonra ihtilafı yok etmenin doğru yolları ele alınmıştır. İkinci ciltte iki ekolün, İslam dininin kaynakları hakkındaki görüşleri, üçüncü ciltte ise Resulullah’ın (saa) sünnetinden içtihad ve reyle amel etme sonucu meydana gelen sapmalara karşı İmam Hüseyin’in (as) kıyamı ve ardından diğer Ehl-i Beyt İmamları’nın bu husustaki çabaları incelenmiştir.
Eserde, halifelerin içtihadını İslam dininin kaynaklarından sayan Ehl-i Sünnet mezhebi “Hilafet Ekolü” ve On iki Ehl-i Beyt İmamı’nı İslam dininin öğretilerine ulaşma kaynağı gören Şia Mezhebi ise “İmamet ve Ehl-i Beyt Ekolü” olarak ifade edilmiştir.
